Open University Malaysia

Open University Malaysia or known as OUM is a private university located in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. The idea started in August 1999 when the Minister of Education invited Multimedia Technology Enhancement Operations Sdn. Bhd. (METEOR), a consortium of 11 public universities in the country to set up an open university. Subsequently in August 2000, Open University Malaysia was established and launched in August 2002 by the then Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato’ Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

The main campus is situated in Kuala Lumpur but it has an approximate 37 learning centres throughout the country, of which 10 are regional learning centres. OUM boasts over 100,000 students in more than 50 academic programmes at the moment. The MQA rating system for Higher Education Institutions in Malaysia also gave OUM a rating of Tier 5 (Excellent) in 2011. Its motto, “University For All” leads to the believe in the democratisation of education, giving everyone a chance at fulfilling their potential through excellent class education. .
