Performance Audition | Three classical pieces of contrasting styles. Major, melodic minor and harmonic minor scales; chromatic scales; arpeggios in all keys (voice majors are exempted from this). |
Aural/ Practical skills test | Sight-reading, open-score reading, playing from simple figured bass, repeating a melody, a rhythmic phrase and chord progressions from memory, as well as singing intervals. |
Theory test | Intervals, scales and key signatures, triads and inversions, roman numeral analysis, time signatures, grouping of notes and rests, transposition, diminished and seventh chords, open score, cadences, lead sheet symbols and Italian / German / French terms. |
Listening test | Identification of a range of musical elements such as tempi, textures, dynamics, timbres and rhythms by listening and responding to brief, recorded musical extracts of both classical and contemporary styles. |
