Description

Xiamen University (XMU) started marine studies 100 years ago and is recognised as the cradle of China’s marine studies. Its Department of Oceanography, established in 1946, is the first of its kind in China, while its College of Ocean and Earth Sciences has developed into one of China’s best marine research institutions with a state key discipline – marine science. It has a faculty that includes two academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a number of experts involved in “Thousand Talents Plan”, China’s Recruitment Programme of Global Experts. The college boasts excellent research platforms such as the State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Science, State-Province Joint Engineering Laboratory of Marine Bioproducts and Technology, outstanding educational centres such as the National Experimental Centre for Education, as well as an advanced general-purpose research vessel equipped with state-of-the-art scientific instruments, allowing interdisciplinary oceanographic cruises in international waters.

Entry Requirement

  • Successful completion of a Bachelor's degree (Level 6, MQF) in Marine Biotechnology, Marine Science, Biotechnology, or any other relevant field with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.75 or equivalent, as accepted by the Senate
  • or a Bachelor's degree in these fields with a CGPA of at least 2.50 but below 2.75 may be accepted, subject to internal assessment
  • or a Bachelor's degree in these fields with a CGPA of at least 2.00 but below 2.50 may be accepted, subject to a minimum of five (5) years of relevant working experience and internal assessment.
