The Chinese Studies programme at Xiamen University has a long history of scholastic excellence since its establishment in 1921. Famous scholars such as Lu Xun and Lin Yutang were once the teaching staff of this programme. It has been accorded the honour of being the "National Talents Training and Research Base for Fundamental Studies in Humanities" and the "National Quality Courses" provider by China's Ministry of Education. It has evolved to become the torch-bearer in the provision of education in the fields of Chinese linguistics and literature studies.; The Master Programme of Chinese Studies at Xiamen University Malaysia aims to nurture students' research interest in the fields of Chinese linguistics, classical Chinese literature, modern Chinese literature, philosophy and history studies. The students will be trained in the areas of research methods and academic writing. Upon graduation, students will be equipped with certain degree of research capacity sufficient for their further academic pursuits. The graduates may also engage in industries such as education, mass media and business.

Entry Requirement

  • Successful completion of a bachelor’s degree in the field or related fields with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 or equivalent, as accepted by the University Senate
  • or a bachelor’s degree in the field or related fields with a CGPA of at least 2.75 but below 3.00 may be accepted, subject to a rigorous internal assessment
  • or a bachelor’s degree in the field or related fields with a CGPA of at least 2.50 but below 2.75 may be accepted, subject to a minimum of five (5) years’ relevant working experience and rigorous internal assessment
  • or candidates without a qualification in the related fields or relevant working experience must undergo appropriate prerequisite courses determined by the department and meet the minimum CGPA requirements outlined above. In addition, candidates must have a credit in Chinese Language at SPM, or a Grade B6 in UEC, or HSK Level 5 (minimum score of 210), or an equivalent qualification.
