Description

The Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Education is a research-focused postgraduate programme designed for individuals who wish to advance their knowledge and make original contributions to the field of education. Students undertake an independent research project under the guidance of experienced academic supervisors, exploring areas such as educational policy, curriculum design, teaching and learning strategies, educational leadership, assessment and evaluation, or inclusive education. The programme emphasises advanced research methodology, critical thinking, data analysis, and scholarly communication, supported by access to academic resources and collaborative research environments. Graduates develop strong analytical, problem-solving, and research skills, equipping them for careers in educational research, policymaking, curriculum development, leadership roles in schools and higher education institutions, or as a pathway to PhD studies in education.

Entry Requirement

  • Successful completion of a relevant Bachelor’s degree programme equivalent to an upper second-class honours degree (2:1) in a relevant discipline, normally including some experience in research methodology (e.g., undergraduate dissertation or research project), as assessed against the required standard. Applicants must hold a qualification from a recognised university and are required to read and comply with the MQA Standards, Programme Standards, and the Application Checklist prior to submitting an application.
