Description

The PhD in Social and Behavioural Science at Heriot‑Watt University Malaysia is a doctoral research degree that aims to develop global research professionals capable of making significant contributions to knowledge and practice in areas of societal and economic importance through sustained, original research under the supervision of expert academic staff from both the Malaysia and UK campuses. This programme enables students to deploy advanced knowledge, critical thinking and analytical skills to identify and resolve complex problems in fields such as industrial and organisational psychology, counselling and clinical psychology, developmental and social psychology, cyber wellness and hypnosis, culminating in the submission of a thesis that demonstrates independent scholarship and contributes new insights to the discipline. The PhD can be pursued on a full‑time basis over approximately three years or part‑time over a longer period, with regular appraisal to monitor academic progress; applicants are typically expected to hold a relevant Master’s degree, though exceptional candidates with a first‑class honours Bachelor’s and research experience may be considered, and all research is conducted in English. Graduates are well prepared for careers in academia, research institutions, policy analysis, consultancy and other roles where high‑level research expertise and deep understanding of human and social behaviour are essential.
